Born in the US, she lived in the US until the age of 9. Graduated from Sophia University with a B.A. in Comparative Culture (currently the Faculty of Liberal Arts) and completed a master's degree in Global Studies at Sophia University. During this time, she interned with the Northeast Asia Team in the Department of Political Affairs at the United Nations Headquarters. She obtained Ph.D. degree in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Warwick, while affiliated with the Institute for Advanced Study at the University of Warwick. She taught political science and other courses at universities and graduate schools in the UK and returned to Japan in the spring of 2016, teaching at several universities (using English as a primary language). She specializes in international relations, U.S.-Japan relations, security, and East Asia/Asia Pacific/Indo-Pacific. Her teaching interests include English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI).
