  What challenges need to be addressed if the international community is to become more stable, peaceful, and just? And what role should Japan play in this process? I approach these questions by combining a historical perspective, centered on the political and diplomatic history of Japan, with theoretical approaches from the social sciences, particularly institutional analysis.

  
  

       In recent years, I have been especially interested in the domestic political conditions that support stable relations with the international community. To explore these conditions, my research focuses primarily on Japanese politics, diplomacy, and international relations from the interwar period through World War II. As part of this work, I have led and participated in collaborative research projects supported by Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI). Within this broader research agenda, I also collaborate with political scientists on related projects. 

  
  

       Through this research, my long-term goal is to develop a form of political and diplomatic history that can withstand critical scrutiny from historians while also contributing to the theoretical analysis of domestic politics and international relations.
